Is it better to study the CSE branch at 2nd generation IIT like Patna, Bhubaneswar, or prefer mechanical engineering at Roorkee, Guwahati, or Kharagpur?

Choosing between two amazing courses like Computer Science Engineering and Mechanical Engineering is a very personal choice. It totally depends on the student’s wishes and goals in the future.

About institutes like IIT Patna, IIT Bhubaneshwar, IIT Roorkee, and other IITs - they are all part of and contribute to the list of India’s best institutions.

Computer Science Engineering does not require much infrastructure except the basics, hence it can be pursued at any 2nd generation IIT too. Anyway, if you really evaluate all of these IITs then the 2nd gen IITs are no longer considered new institutes. They have amazingly established themselves in the last ten years and have successfully made their mark. Being a part of IIT, the 2nd gen IITs also provide their students with fairly good placement rates and packages. It totally depends on the student regarding which gen IIT to choose for which course.

Though pursuing Mechanical Engineering from first-gen IITs like IIT Roorkee, IIT Guwahati, or IIT Kharagpur would be more beneficial because being the older institutes the rest, still these institutes have a better atmosphere and a more experienced team of professors. The more learned faculty at these IITs for Mechanical Engineering eventually adds up a lot to the student’s experience at the institute as well. Studying at an older institute also offers better opportunities, both in the case of internships and placements.
